NORTH AMERICAN COALITION MOBILIZES TO COUNTER UNFSS PROCESS
Food System Take-Back Will Elevate Food Providers, Not Corporate Profits
What: A virtual event to elevate voices and concerns of food providers marginalized by the UN Food Systems Summit (UNFSS) process. The People’s Kitchen Counter-Mobilization: Food System Take-Back is a half-day virtual event, hosted by The People’s Forum NYC, and will feature speakers from Africa to North America in separate conversations laying out their visions for a food system based on agroecology and food sovereignty. Intermissions will feature cultural events from organizations based around North America. Registration details will be shared soon.
When: Thursday, September 23, 2021, 7:00AM-11:30AM PDT / 10:00AM-2:30PM EDT
Why: “The UNFSS has been taken out of food providers’ hands and put squarely in the pockets of food corporations. We need to return power to the people who grow, harvest, transport, and make our food,” said Niaz Dorry, Executive Director of the National Family Farm Coalition.
Who: Coalition partners for the People’s Kitchen Counter-Mobilization include the Community Alliance for Global Justice, National Family Farm Coalition, North American Marine Alliance, One Fish Foundation, and Slow Food USA.
