As the Food Solutions New England network continues to build a regional movement for a sustainable and just food future, the importance of public policies around food, agriculture, fisheries and forestry are taking on greater importance as key strategic areas of our shared efforts. This is more critical than ever, as we grapple with pandemic disruptions, reckon with white supremacy, and face ever-growing challenges from the climate crisis. Furthermore, the elections could redraw the lines of how federal food, agriculture and fisheries policies and programs impact us directly here in New England collectively and in each of the six states.

Join special guests Congresswoman Chellie Pingree, Maine Commissioner of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, Amanda Beal, and scholar-activist and National Young Farmers Coalition Policy Associate Vanessa García Polanco to hear about the opportunities ahead of us to leverage the policy landscape in support of a sustained food system transformation in our region.

Attendees will hear from our guests about how local, state and federal policies matter for the decade ahead, what policies can be pivotal for supporting gains made across food, farming and fishing sectors, and how can we best direct our collective efforts to impact this important work to democratically guide our food system towards sustainability and resilience.

This session will be held in English and will be recorded for later viewing. Facilitation by Tom Kelly and Joy Gary with support from Lisa Fernandes of the UNH Sustainability
