Apples with text saying FSNE is hiring a Communication DirectorThis is a full-time benefitted position with the UNH Sustainability Institute based at the University of New Hampshire’s Durham campus. Starting annual salary is $65,000-$75,000 under UNH pay grade 24. The position will remain open until filled.

The FSNE team continues to work remotely, with occasional in-person meetings and events. The frequency of these in-person meetings will likely evolve over time. For this position, we are open to applicants who are (or plan to be) based in any of the six New England states (Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut) and who are able to travel to occasional in-person meetings and events at various locations in our region. Office space at the UNH Sustainability Institute is available for staff who would like to base themselves at our offices in Durham, New Hampshire on a regular or occasional basis. The position is funded for one year with the possibility of renewal based on funding and performance.

FSNE’s programming is organized around our four unique and essential contributions to our regional food movement. These four “impact areas” are network strengthening, racial equity & values leadership/practice, narrative strategy, and visionary policy coordination. These impact areas are those best done at a regional scale and are designed to be supportive of the specific missions of the many values-aligned organizations, businesses, agencies, and people working on food systems efforts in our region.

Overview of position duties and responsibilities:

The Communication Director will be responsible for updating and leading the Food Solutions New England (FSNE) network’s communications strategy. In addition to guiding the network’s communication strategy, the Communication Director will be responsible for content development and management of FSNE’s websites, social media sites, newsletters, campaigns, storytelling, and media relations. The position is based at the Sustainability Institute at UNH which serves as the backbone or coordinating entity, for the FSNE network. The Communication Director will work with FSNE to grow and strengthen the network. The Communication Director will also be responsible for coordinating communications partnerships with organizations across the network, as well as with the UNH Sustainability Institute and UNH Communication and Public Affairs (CPA). In addition to possessing a well-rounded set of communications skills, the Director is expected to bring proven communications expertise in one or more areas (e.g., social media, graphic design, storytelling, videography, photography, etc.) that will complement and advance existing communications capabilities of FSNE and the Sustainability Institute. This is a highly collaborative position that requires being in conversation with diverse stakeholders in a co-creative way.

Minimum experience: Five to seven years in the communications field
